The Faculty of Health’s newest degree program, the Global Health BA/BSc, began in September 2014. Global Health students will graduate with an understanding and knowledge of global health architecture, comparative health systems, health information and communication technology, challenges of community empowerment in resource-poor settings, the nature, dynamics and impact of international migration on human resources for health, and health care financing and health sector reform across cultures and countries. Students will also acquire valuable career experience from a practicum in their fourth year working in the field with academic institutions and NGOs in Canada or overseas.
Career options for graduates include policy development and infectious disease prevention with international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), education, research, community outreach, community healthcare planning, health systems administration, business in both the private and non-profit sectors, and program planning and evaluation with health agencies, government and NGOs. The Global Health degree can also serve as a pre-professional degree for programs such as medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, health law and health administration or relevant graduate degrees.
